When you combine great music, lively entertainment, plenty to eat and drink, the worlds biggest bouncy castle AND glorious sunshine all weekend, you get Common People 2016!
Following it’s 2015 success Common People Festival returned to Southampton Common for a second year running and once again provided a vibrant atmosphere and a great weekend for young and slightly less young(!).
On Saturday night the main stage welcomed Southampton’s very own Craig David who’s DJ set proved he’s still got it, playing our old favourites – including Re-Rewind! On Sunday night headliners Duran Duran proved even the younger generation appreciate good music as they bought the festival to a close.
Throughout the festival it’s not only the main stage that supplied entertainment to the crowds. With the Unconditioned Stage offering DJ sets for those keen to dance, the Uncommon Stage representing new talent, the Bug Bar spinning its decks and numerous kids activities and fairground rides to keep kids of all ages entertained!
One of the festival highlights has to be the food! Street food from all over the world to suit any appetite! From Indian, Mexican, Italian, Thai, and a trusty old favourite ‘Mac & Cheese’! There are also plenty of spots to pop down a blanket, sit back and enjoy the atmosphere, making this a great festival for families to enjoy.
Day one of the festival saw an unfortunate technical hitch with the ticket scanners meaning the queues to get in became larger than normal, however organisers tried their best to sort the problem quickly and efficiently, and if Sunday and last year are anything to go by then this was just a minor glitch in an otherwise great weekend!
After another successful year, I think it safe to say Common People Festival looks set to become an annual feature to Southampton events!
