The new Southampton Harbour Hotel has already proven itself a welcome addition to the city. Sitting impressively at Ocean Village Marina offering 5 Star accommodation, a luxury spa, two restaurants and a bar with the most stunning panoramic views. The Southampton Guide went to check out the hottest new venue in the city and sample the delights of HarBAR on 6th.
For those looking for a touch of sparkle with their breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks, the hotel’s rooftop bar and restaurant is like nowhere else in Southampton. HarBAR on 6th has a lot to offer hotel guests and visitors, from picturesque views over the marina and across the Solent, perfected cocktails, and mouth-watering cuisine.
Heading into the hotel you’ll need to head up in the lift to the 6th floor. As you step out you are greeted by a large open plan bar area and restaurant that reaches across the entire top floor, spilling out onto an outdoor terrace that promises the excitement of future al fresco dining and sipping fizz whilst watching the sunset.
In the evening the views remain spectacular, with the simple glisten of lights on the water and even the headlights over Itchen Bridge offering a soothing backdrop to your setting. The atmospheric lighting enhances the ambiance within the restaurant and creates the air of fine dining, without being pretencious.
The evening’s a la carte menu is fresh and exciting, with starters that include ‘Crab Claws baked in coals’ and ‘Chargrilled Squid with Burnt red chilli’, and mains of ‘Chargrilled Salmon Fillet’ and ‘Tiger Prawns’. If that hasn’t caught your eye then the selection of steaks cooked on the fire-pit surely will!
There’s often the assumption that the finer the dining the smaller the portions, but at HarBAR you can enjoy quality with ample quantity. There’s always the options for some side dishes should you be worried – the chargrilled broccoli is divine.
There’s little chance you will be able to say no to dessert, whether it’s because you know it’s going to be good (which it is!) or because you’re enjoying the setting too much to leave!
Either that or it’s time for another drink, and with such a wide choice of wine, spirits and cocktails on the drinks menu, you’ll be spoilt for choice. If you’re choosing a cocktail instead of a dessert then the Cowes Regatta is perfect for those who enjoy something sweet and fruity.
For those that feel dining at the top of a 5 star luxury hotel is a little out of their reach then you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Starters from the a la carte menu start from £5 and mains from just £9, which is extremely reasonable given the quality of both the food and the surroundings.
So whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simple want to feel special, dining at HarBAR on 6th will give you the ingredients for a perfect evening.
