Founded in 1898 and incorporated in 1910, it operates multiple historic properties and collections spanning more than 400 years of regional history.

  • Headquarters & Main Complex: The museum’s Rogers Mansion Museum Complex (its administrative hub) includes the 1843 Rogers Mansion and about a dozen other restored historic structures with period rooms, changing exhibits, and galleries in the heart of Southampton Village’s historic district.

  • Collections & Archives: The Archives & Research Center houses more than 3,000 objects and 560+ cubic feet of archival material as well as a research library with thousands of books, manuscripts, maps, and photographs — useful for genealogy and local history research (by appointment).

  • Historic Sites Managed: In addition to Rogers Mansion, the museum oversees sites such as the Pelletreau Silver Shop, Halsey House & Garden, and the Conscience Point Historic Site and Nature Walk, each focusing on a particular aspect of local heritage.

  • Programs & Exhibits: The museum offers educational programs, special exhibitions, talks, and events that engage visitors of all ages with Southampton’s past, from colonial times to more recent history.

The 1708 House

Refined B&B in a 1708 Colonial house offering polished country-style quarters, plus a lounge.

A historic boutique bed-and-breakfast located at 126 Main Street in Southampton Village, dating back to the early colonial era. The house was known to exist by 1708, with a cellar believed to date to around 1648, making it one of the area’s oldest surviving structures.

Originally a private residence that passed through prominent local families, the property underwent a major restoration in 1993 and reopened as a charming historic inn in 1996.

Today, it offers period charm with modern accommodations in the heart of the village — within walking distance of shops, galleries, and beaches — and stands as a well-preserved landmark reflecting Southampton’s colonial heritage.
