Sometimes all you need is a sense of space and a beautiful day in the countryside to feel refreshed. Combine that with a stunning hotel and country club where customer services is friendly and attentive then you have perfect mid-week break.
The Meon Valley Marriott Hotel & Country Club in Shedfield is in the heart of the Meon Valley in Hampshire.
The first thing you notice is the space around the hotel and the lush, perfectly mowed greens of the 18 and 9 hole golf course.
The hotel is spacious and modern which means there never seems to be lots of people even though it is a busy hotel especially in the summer months. It is a perfectly located hotel to visit some of Hampshire’s top attractions – lying between Portsmouth, Winchester and Southampton it is central to many great days across Hampshire.
Extensive grounds mean children can run around, there’s even a mini golfing green to see if there is a young Rory McIlroy in the making.
As a spa and country club there is plenty to keep you active if you enjoy your fitness. Outside you’ll find the golf course and tennis courts. Inside the hotel the extensive gym with the latest running, cross trainers and cycling machines will help you burn off any excess energy! There’s also a room for weights and a fitness class room, plenty to help you work up an appetite.
If relaxation is more your leisure then the swimming pool and spa is for you with plenty of space and loungers for you to relax on. The large windows overlook the golf course and on a sunny day you can sit out on the terrace. Enjoy the Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna which are a decent size so you don’t feel crowded and just relax as your troubles melt away.
The secluded nature of the hotel makes it a perfect destination for a Spa break and some pampering. The Retreat Spa at Meon Valley offers an extensive menu of treatments and packages using only the finest products from Decleor, Carita, Jessica, Moroccan Oil, and Bare Minerals. You will feel relaxed, rejuvenated and revived (depending on what you say you would like to feel!) at the hands of the expert therapists. Treatments are tailored to your needs so after a firm neck, back and shoulder massage, expect for your shoulders to feel lower and to float from the treatment area!
All the rooms are spacious and comfortable and great for families. If you’re looking for a home-from-home feel, the Junior Suites offer plenty of room with a separate lounge room with sofa, arm chairs and a large tv. It is like your own front room! Bathrobes and slippers are provided so you can really relax and feel at home.
There are two options for dinner at the hotel. In the award winning Broadstreet Restaurant reservations are required. The menu is full of local produce and fresh, seasonal ingredients; you can enjoy panfried scallops that melt in your mouth, tender pork fillet and steak cooked to perfection! The restaurant is light with windows overlooking the golf course, again giving a sense of space.
You can also dine in Zest Restaurant Bar & Lounge which is ideal for families. The menu includes such delights as steamed mussels or creamy wild mushrooms on ciabatta to start, and for mains fish burger of battered Pollock fillet, rocket, chilli mayo in a brioche bun with fries or leek and stilton tart.
There’s plenty of comfy sofas both in the bar area and between the restaurants if you didn’t fancy retiring to bed too early, but when you do the beds are comfortable with fresh crisp sheets and the rooms are quiet meaning a peaceful night sleep.
Ahead of breakfast, you can either laze in the comforts of your room or head to the gym for a swim or workout before breakfast, which is served in the Broadstreet Restaurant. The buffet style breakfast allows you to choose from a full English style cooked feast, to muffins (popular with children!) toast, cereals and plenty of fruit. The friendly and fun ‘egg chef’ is popular with children and adults whilst he freshly cooks the eggs of your choice.
Before your stay is over, it’s worth a gentle stroll around the grounds of the hotel, taking in the picturesque location and watching the golfers practising their drive.
One night in a junior suite ranges from midweek from £150 and weekend from £190.00 both room only.
